Rape Of Nanking.
“The Rape of Nanking did not penetrate the world consciousness in the same manner as the Holocaust or Hiroshima because the victims themselves had remained silent.” -Iris Chang, Rape of Nanking
Six years after Japan captured the Chinese province of Manchuria, the Japanese launched assault with massed infantry, tanks and airstrikes. The Japanese then attacked Shanghai and pushed the Chinese army up the Yangtze Alley in Nanking. The people in Nanking were butchered and became known as the "Rape of Nanking." When the Japanese army entered Nanking, civilians were shot and suspected members of the Chinese army were taken. Those members hands were tied behind their backs, and led to a field where they were shot, beheaded, or some other way. The soldiers got pleasure in killing indiscriminately. They overran shops and burned them down when they were done with it. The soldiers watched as the civilians desperately tried to run away from the fire. All throughout the city, there were dead corpses. The streets of Nanking ran with blood. It was called the "Rape of Nanking" because women were being raped and then murdered when the attacker was satisfied. The Rape of Nanking lasted for about six weeks with 300,000 lives lost.
